It’s Christmas Eve and the team are struggling with seriously adverse weather conditions.
But that didn’t stop them from recording an interview with ITV West Country News, marking presenter Kylie Pentelow’s first ever Zoom interview with a team in Antarctica!
In the 3 minute segment, the team managed to discuss the scientific objectives, the unseasonal weather and difficult conditions, the route and the historical significance, and they even managed to squeeze in Merry Christmas message to friends and family!
In an era of rapid climate change and biodiversity loss it’s no longer enough to just do scientific research on expeditions, we have to communicate this research to the everyone, including the public, policy makers, and also to journalists so they can better understand and communicate these stories as part of their jobs.
So media coverage like this is hugely important. A huge well done to the expedition team for pulling this off, and thank you to ITV West Country News for having the courage to schedule the interview!
Thanks to Alexis Bowater (Bowater Communications) for organising the coverage, and The AST Group for supporting the expedition with the satellite communications technology necessary for this to be possible.
Many thanks to all of our friends, sponsors and supporters who are backing the Antarctic Quest 21 expedition, including:
